The Legend of the Ice People PDF Print E-mail

Margit Sandemo is Europe’s bestselling author. Her 172 novels have sold over 39 million copies in Europe, and are so popular that they have their own cult following with people dressing in character - just as The Sound of Music and Star Trek fans do in this country. The saga was extremely popular in Poland and for that reason, we would like to help promoting it also in the UK. It is a great read for long winter evenings...
Real events in her life are woven into the gripping Scandinavian saga The Legend of the Ice People, whose first volume, Spellbound, begins in the plague-ravaged Norwegian town of Trondheim in the winter of 1581.

Starving peasant girl Silje, newly-orphaned by the plague, struggles through the horrific scenes. As she does so she rescues two abandoned children, and they flee to the outskirts of the town.
In the shadowy nearby forest she meets the strange yet captivating ‘wolf man’ – Tengel of the Ice People. She has heard of his dark reputation but nevertheless feels an irresistible physical attraction…How did he earn his reputation? Why is she
drawn to him? What will be the consequences?
From Silje’s horrors in Trondheim, Spellbound sets the reader on a gripping path through four centuries of the history of
strange mountain folk who inhabit high passes in the frozen Norwegian mountains above a glacial barrier. The saga
chronicles the battle between good and evil involving the Ice People and nearby lowlanders, but ultimately spreads to countries beyond Scandinavia, weaving into its engrossing pages historical events, romance, witchcraft and the supernatural.
Often earthy and often erotic, Sandemo’s saga is always imbued with a powerful narrative drive.

About Margit Sandemo
The life of Margit Sandemo could be lifted straight from one of her sagas. The daughter of a Swedish countess who
abandoned her privileged upbringing to marry a crofter, Sandemo undoubtedly inherited her writing talent from her father –
the illegitimate son of a Nobel Prize Winner for Literature – Ibsen’s friend and rival, Bjornsterne Bjornson. Now in her eighties, Margit’s other great passion is white water rafting.
