The grand opening of the ms2 – the new Muzeum’s spaces on the grounds of Manufaktura will be held on 20th-22nd of November 2008. After years of waiting filled with attempts of subsequent directors, the exceptional collection of 20th and 21st century art will be displayed in the conditions that correspond to its significance and value. It will also be possible to develop Muzeum's activity in terms of responding to the challenges which museum institutions are facing contemporarily.
One of the most unique collections of art in Europe, entitled Collection of 20th and 21st Century Art, will be presented from a new perspective, in unconventional way and in much larger scale than in the previuos buiding. Moreover the international temporal exhibition confronting works of two significant avant-garde artists – Katarzyna Kobro and Lygia Clark – will be opened. The schedule includes also a range of other events.

The International Festival of Photography in Lodz is the biggest event of this kind in Poland. It is organized by Foundation of Visual Education and Lodz Art Center, located in a complex of 19th century factories. Every year in May over 50. exhibitions are presented. The programme is always enriched by meetings, auction, workshops, publications, slide-shows and portfolio reviews.

Łódź begins at Stansted Airport. Or so it seems. Having grossly overestimated the time needed to drive from Minehead (even the M25 is bearable at 5.30 a.m. !), I found myself with a daunting five hours wait ahead of me, but the time spent in the check-in queue and departure lounge in the company of my fellow passengers was enough to establish three things : 1) I was not going to be surrounded by tourists, 2) the inhabitants of Łódź and thereabouts seem a particularly friendly bunch, and 3) my halting Polish was not eliciting too many grimaces.

Łódź's Manufaktura is a finalist of the prestigious ULI Awards for Excellence presented by the Urban Land Institute, and a triple finalist of the Solal Marketing Awards organized by the International Council of Shopping Centers. This will be the fourth ULI Awards for Excellence: Europe program. Of 34 submitted projects, the judges picked eight finalists: two from Spain and one each from Turkey, Portugal, the Netherlands, Sweden, France and Poland. Before reaching its final decision, the judges will visit all eight projects, taking the opportunity to talk to the people directly involved in them. The competition results will be announced on June 6 at a grand gala in Hamburg.
