‘The New Poland’: Special Week of Programming is Prelude To Major ‘Autumn of Change’ Initiative Live reports and landmark documentary from Poland mark the launch of major programming concept embracing Hungary, Germany, Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Romania. It has been nearly twenty years since Poland’s Solidarity movement defeated the Communist Party in a historic election that prompted the fall of Communism across Central and Eastern Europe.
CNN International marks this significant anniversary with ‘The New Poland,’ a week of programming examining the transformation of Poland from 1989 to where it sits today on the world stage. The combination of daily live programming and special reports from CNN correspondents in cities across Poland culminates June 4th with ‘Autumn of Change,’ an in-depth documentary that take a retrospective look at the events leading up to the election that same day twenty years ago. |

In collaboration with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the Polish Cultural Institute, Tate Britain is showing a group of works by Polish Symbolist artists alongside paintings by their British contemporaries exploring the relationship between the two schools around 1900. The display features a selection of works that have been lent from public and private collections in Poland. This is the first time there has been an exhibition on the subject of Polish art at Tate and the display coincides with the Polska!Year in the UK. Artists include Edward Burne-Jones, Lawrence Alma-Tadema, Alfred Gilbert, Stanisław Wyspiański, Józef Mehoffer, Witold Wojtkiewicz and Jacek Malczewski.
Organised by Tate Britain in collaboration with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw, and launches Polska!Year.

An Impossible Journey, the first major UK exhibition of Tadeusz Kantor’s work for over 30 years, opens at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, University of East Anglia (UEA), Norwich, on Tuesday 2 June and runs until Sunday 30 August. The Sainsbury Centre has been working with Cricoteka, Kraków, and the Norfolk and Norwich Festival to develop the exhibition. An Impossible Journey runs concurrently with Take a Look at Me Now: Contemporary Art from Poland. The exhibitions have been developed by the Sainsbury Centre and are part of two UK cultural celebrations this summer; POLSKA! YEAR and Contemporary Art Norwich 09 (CAN09). |

During yet another edition of the festival Scottish Tides - Polish Spring, we shall have an opportunity to savour music produced by such famous performers as Katia Skanavi, Nikolai Demidenko, Hebrides Ensemble, Sing Sing Penelope and the Pomorska Philharmonic.
